One local Birmingham non-profit will benefit from monetary and equipment donations by participating company teams leading up to the Corporate Challenge. With the event’s focus on health, wellness, and bettering our community, the philanthropic portion of the event will support Redemptive Cycles, a non-profit bike shop located in downtown Birmingham.
Redemptive Cycles has a mission to redeem the streets. Their non profit shop sells new and used bikes at an affordable price, and repairs bikes on a sliding scale system. The Earn-A-Bike program allows those in need to work in the shop learning how to repair and maintain a bicycle, then leave with a bike of their own. The impact a bicycle can have for someone is incredible, and the Earn-A-Bike program is just one way Redemptive Cycles is invested in, and improving our community in Birmingham.
Corporate Challenge presented by Hibbett | City Gear is proud to partner with Redemptive Cycles in support of their mission and unite in our common goal of bringing our community together and promoting healthy lifestyles.
This money raised from Corporate Challenge is used to directly fund our Earn A Bike & Sliding Scale Repair programs. These programs enable our low-income and homeless clients to take ownership and maintain a bicycle: a powerful transportation tool. Access to sustainable, personal transportation has been shown time and time again to be #1 factor in a person’s ability to scale socioeconomic barriers. We know from experience that our clients bikes serve as a jump board for further, sustained successes in their lives.
Being the philanthropic partner of Corporate Challenge has allowed us to fulfill all demonstrated need for bicycles and service since late 2017. In our early years, we’d often need to scale back charitable services or have a moratorium on Earn A Bike and Sliding Scale Repair when funds got tight. Not any more. The generosity of our Corporate Challenge partners means that we can meet every bicycle-related need that walks through our doors. Ultimately, this is a massive gift to the Birmingham community at large. Hundreds of individuals now have access to reliable, sustainable and opportunity-chasing transportation thanks to you all.
